Event Details

Implementing Cap and Trade in California and introducing a Carbon Tax in Australia presents a unique set of challenges and opportunities for policy makers and businesses. This event, driven by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in conjunction with the UC Davis Policy Institute for Energy, Environment and the Economy, will bring together Australian and US policy makers, businesses and academics to share, from a regulatory perspective, best practice in developing an efficient and cost effective market based solution to cut green house gas emissions. The conference will include key note speakers from the Australian Government and the Californian Air Resources Board as well as leading companies including Chevron and San Diego Gas and Electricity. Additional carbon markets will also be represented with RGGI, Canada and the European Union speaking about their schemes.

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's (DFAT) role is to advance Australia's national interest. This involves working to strengthen Australia's security and enhance Australia's prosperity. To achieve this, DFAT provides foreign and trade policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT works with other government agencies to ensure that Australia's pursuit of its global, regional and bilateral interests is coordinated effectively.DFAT is also the lead agency managing Australia's international presence, managing a network of 89 overseas posts in five continents with over 3600 staff.

 

The UC Davis Policy Institute for Energy, Environment and the Economy is part of a bold campus-wide initiative established to address pressing societal challenges. The Policy Institute leverages world-class university expertise and engages policy makers and stakeholders to identify policy and research priorities, synthesize existing knowledge, and deliver timely and relevant information to the policy process. We are focused on outcomes and serve as a model and partner for other outcome-oriented university policy institutes.
